The Point Form Version 

I value privacy, so here’s what I do on this site to protect yours: 

• I will not ask you for personal information unless it’s genuinely relevant to your care.
• I will not share your personal information with anyone except to comply with legal requirements, develop my services, or protect my rights.
• I will not store your personal information on my servers unless required for the on-going operation of my site.

Clayton Willoughby is the owner, operator and practitioner at Nanaimo Acupuncture and nanaimoacupuncture.com. 

Any time we're on the internet our information is always at risk of being collected and used by large corporations to try to make money off of us. Even here at a small clinic in Nanaimo, some small information is always transmitted back and forth. For example, this website adapts its size depending on the size of your screen - that's information. I just want to make sure that I operate in a transparent manner, that I collect the absolute minimum needed and that that I’m responsible with it after it’s collected to respect your privacy. 

Every website on the internet collects some form of information and I’m creating this just to let you know that I’m doing everything I can to minimise any potential issues. By operating my own domain I’m much more in control of this policy than any site hosted on godaddy, wix, weebly, yellowpages or others. 

It’s important to note that Jane.app is our partner for scheduling and clinical charting with their own privacy policy which you can view at your leisure.

Website Visitors 

Like most website operators, I collect non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. My purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how visitors use my website. If people are coming to my page from a link shared by a non-profit event I'm volunteering at that's nice to know. If someone tells me that one of the pages on my site isn't working for them then I can examine the data to see if it's an issue with a particular browser. Honestly, it's not even something I look at very often and data is never shared to anyone else. 

If someone leaves a comment on the website (ie: in a blog post) this information is obviously freely given and the site will collect potentially personally-identifying information like an Internet Protocol (IP) address to protect us from abusive comments and spam. This information (other than the comment itself) is only visible to the operator/administrator of the website and addressee of the email.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information 

Certain visitors to my website choose to interact in ways that require me to gather personally-identifying information. 

Did you send me an email? Now I know your name and email address.

Did you provide any information about health concerns? Well, now this is a whole new ball of wax. The amount and type of information that I gather depends on the nature of the interaction . Sometimes I need financial or insurance information, or maybe I need information on medication. In each case, I will ask for and collect such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to the situation. I do not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. 

However, you can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information.

Aggregated Statistics 

Statistics about the behaviour of visitors to this website is collected by the server - such as which pages get visited more than others. If many people are viewing one page and not another this can help me find problems with the operation of the site and even help me make better content. 

Again, I rarely look at this information and even if I had cause to show it to others, no personally-identifying information would be disclosed other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information 

I operate this website entirely on my own. This means that there is no other administrator, contractor, affilliated organisation or employee who will have access to information. In the unforeseeable circumstance that I may need to disclose some personally-identifying information it will only be with the understanding that it will only be to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that:

• need to know that information in order to process it on my behalf or to provide services available at my website, and
• that have agreed not to disclose it to others. 

Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using my website, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. I will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above. 

Additionally I may be required to disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to individuals, government or other organisations. But I will only disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when I believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of myself, third parties or the public at large. I take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Contact & Communications

You maybe contacted by me for a variety or reasons. I will repsond to phone calls, emails and other forms of communication directed towards the clinic. Thes can be direct communications or via a third party. 

If you have signed up for the newsletter in the past or registered at the websiste and supplied your email address, I may occasioanlly send you an email about new services, products or keep you up to date with what's going on with the clinic. These communications can be unsubscribed in a link in the communication itself. If you send me a request (for example via email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), I reserve the right to publish it in order to help clarify or respond to your request or to help me support other users. If you provide me with a testimonial I reserve the right to publish it with whatever level of identification you provide me or make request of. 

If you are a current or past patient of the clinic, or even have just set up a client account through Jane.app, you may be contacted about clinic updates such as change in location or closures due to international pandemic and related social controls. 

Business Transfers 

If Nanaimo Acupuncture and/or nanaimoacupuncture.com were acquired by another party, user information would be among the assets that would be transferred. Any party that would acquire these may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy. 

Ads? 

What Ads? I don’t put ads on my own website. If I put ads here I’d be trying to make money off of you just for visiting my page. Ad networks rely on data collected about you from other sites (google, facebook, etc) which have tracked the sites you visit to show you ads based on your past behaviour. I want to minimise data collection, not help it.

Privacy Policy Changes 

This policy is a work in progress Changes may be implemented because I learn something new about privacy and want to make improvements or clarification. Sometimes laws change and we need to adapt to meet them. Regardless, this page is here to act as a central location for how I will handle any information provided to me. If you have genuine concerns over web privacy please feel free to check this page for any changes or concerns - you should be curious about how your information is used, on every site you visit. If a site you visit regularly doesn't have a posted privacy policy, ask them why. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
