Registered Acupuncturist

Clayton Willoughby

Registered Acupuncturist

Clayton has been in practice since 2004 and beginning in 2008 has provided free acupuncture treatment in mental health & addiction programs at different Island Health facilities in Nanaimo with a particular focus treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain and withdrawal from opiates & alcohol.

The number of people living with chronic pain is increasing but a lot of treatments and services are unavailable to many of them due to rising costs. So Clayton takes a lot of training to provide more advanced & effective treatment options and also tries to provide these services at affordable costs.

In 2009 Clayton began providing community acupuncture treatments. The idea being that if people are living in pain and disease he could expect them to either make more money to afford treatment or he could just charge less money. It’s not just for people on fixed or limited income, but anyone with a desire to get better fast without spending a lot of money. Since graduating, he has studied many different ways of practicing acupuncture as well as newer point injection techniques to not just treat pain but to correct and repair the body.

Clayton currently works on the board of the BC Association of TCM & Acupuncture Practitioners and is a member of the Nanaimo Senior Services Network. In the past, he has donated services in support of the Haven Society, Nanaimo Women’s Resource Centre, Loaves & Fishes as well as for the Stz'uminus and Snuneymuxw First Nations. He has always seen health care as a service; not for large financial gains, but rather the social dividends of seeing the people in his community live healthier lives.

Clayton treats a lot of pain including:

  • Tight muscles anywhere in the body
  • Neck & nape pain, especially involving headaches/migraine and grinding teeth
  • Low back pain and sciatica
  • Frozen shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
  • Neurological pain either from pinched or inflamed nerves
  • Recovery from injury & surgery
  • Fibromyalgia
As well as internal medical issues:
  • Reproductive health (fertility & menstrual issues)
  • Pregnancy care and labour support
  • Digestive health
  • Respiratory conditions (asthma, sleep apnoea)
  • Emotional & mental health
